Betsy Fredrickson, LCSW

I have lived in Overland Park, Kansas since 2017 after relocating to from Austin, Texas, where I had been in Private Practice since 2009.  My Practice focuses on adolescents, millennials, and families/parenting.  I am a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) in Kansas and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Texas, as well as a Board approved Clinical Supervisor (TX).  I received my Masters in Social Work from St. Louis University.

Being in Private Practice has allowed me to focus my work primarily with teens, millennials and parenting.  I am drawn to these populations because of the transitional nature of these stages of development.  Not yet being adults but having to navigate a world where their choices can impact them into adulthood or being adults but not knowing where your life is taking you.  I love working with parents too and developed this love after becoming a parent myself.  I enjoy seeing the growth of families as they work together and develop their full potential.

Prior to starting my private practice, I was the guidance counselor at St. Michael’s Catholic Academy in Austin, Texas for six years.  At St. Michael’s, I worked collaboratively with students who were struggling with challenges such as:

  • Poor academic performance
  • Cutting and Self-Harm
  • Self Esteem
  • Social Isolation and/or Bullying
  • Social pressures/friendship
  • ADHD
  • Depression/Anxiety

Before moving to Austin, I worked for Johns Hopkins in the Community Psychiatry division.  I supervised mobile treatment therapists and also worked in an inner city school.  The children and adolescents were primarily at risk of psychiatric hospitalization due to overwhelming life situations and mental health problems.  I provided:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Family therapy

My approach to therapy is:

  • Collaborative
  • Straightforward
  • Lighthearted
  • Authentic

In my practice, confidentiality is always maintained at the highest level.  Having a wide breadth of experience has shaped me into the person I am today and has given me the empathy and passion to support others as they help themselves.  I am confident that working together will get the positive results you or your family desires.  I hope you consider letting me be a part of your journey.
